The Ancient History of Hands

Two fonts with Just van Rossum: JustLeftHand and ErikRightHand. Quickly drawn and scanned in 1990. Inappropriately used ever since.

The handwriting of Just (left-handed) written with a thin fineliner, and the (non-left-handed) handwriting of Erik written with a fat marker. Both fonts capture the quick and ephemeral nature of handwritten notes. Functional rather than fancy, it is the typography of reminders and shopping lists – but then really nice ones.

At some point I drew this story about the fonts. The lettering in this strip is with LTR Kosmik.
